Xpress Relocation Nomination For The British Association of Removers – Commercial Mover Of The Year Awards
Xpress Relocation is delighted to announce that we have once again been nominated for the Commercial Mover of The Year Award at the British Association of Removers (BAR) Annual Conference to be held in May of this year. Having also been nominated for the award in 2012, we are hopeful that this is our year but of course we’re up against some stiff competition!
With its convenient transport links and great local amenities Milton Keynes is becoming an increasingly popular spot for office relocation. 45 miles northwest of London, this large Buckinghamshire location was one of the first new towns to be specifically designed as a modern urban business environment. Government figures indicate that many companies are now starting to recognise the potential of having a new office here, with on average five businesses moving into, or expanding within, the city every month.
As a business environment, Milton Keynes has a good mix of existing companies, from large blue chip organisations such as Argos and BP, to smaller sized businesses (87% of businesses here employ 20 people or less). The workforce in Milton Keynes is well suited to making moving to a new office in Milton Keynes much easier where additional staff are required, as 41% of the population is under 35 and 53% of the workforce is managerial, professional or skilled. The city has a wide range of housing, exciting leisure and entertainment activities, as well as the UK’s largest school building programmes and four universities, which makes it a great choice as a location for a new office in terms of staff relocation. Add to that the fact that London is just 34 minutes away by train and that also makes Milton Keynes easily commutable.
On the 8th March, Stadium MK in Milton Keynes will play host to the international business-to-business (B2B) exhibition. Expo 3.0 will be the first time an international business exhibition has been held in Milton Keynes but this will hopefully be the first of many.
The exhibition will be an event in which businesses from all over the world can meet, network and exchange information with many other companies. There will also be much to do, including talks from inspirational key note speakers as well as workshops based around hot topics within the business world. Some of the themes that will be central throughout the event will include environmental development, international business, new media and the concept of a smart city.
Victoria Beale, the founder of Business Expo 3.0 believes that Milton Keynes is the perfect location for such an event as it is equally placed between London and Birmingham and is home to some of the worlds most recognised brands.
Whether your office is moving to a new building across town, or simply being relocated to a different floor, the process can be a stressful one. The main worry is often a loss of productivity for the business. Yet there are some simple steps that can be taken to minimise this as well as making the whole thing a little easier.
The two most important things to have in any change of circumstances are organisation and communication. They will make for a smoother transition, as well as maximising the time you have to get things done. Planning and preparation should include a detailed map of the new office that shows each and every plug socket, connection point and layout of furniture. Emails, meetings and notifications informing everyone of what will be happening enables them to plan their workload and enhances the team as a whole.
The more you do before the office move, the more quickly business will return back to normal afterwards. Do not overlook the small things, like clearing out your desk draws in plenty of time, making sure every piece of paper is filed, and above all, labeling as much as you can.
